Village of Laurium
Special Council Meeting
Tuesday, October 28, 2003
Present for Roll Call: Bausano,
Harrell, Junot, Rastello, Turner and Zei.
Absent: Lanctot.
Guests: Ronald Gipp,
James Lemler, Edward M. Vertin, and Daniel Zubiena.
The meeting was called
to order in the Village Council Chambers by President Harrell at 5:30PM.
The purpose of this
special meeting was for a work session to discuss the finances of the village.
The Governor will be
having a forum in Marquette on November 4, 2003 at 7:00PM on the state’s
finances. Vertin is on the list to
attend. After the Governor has had all
of these meetings throughout the state, she will decide where to make the next
round of cuts.
Vertin gave
projections for next years tax revenues and state shared revenues. Ways to increase revenues were discussed
including the option of a Headlee override.
Insurance and
worker’s compensation expenses were reviewed.
A discussion on the
rental rates for the George Gipp Arena was held. The rates will increase for this season and
will be determined before the arena opens at the end of the month. This year, parents of mite hockey players who
don’t work at the concession stand will be charged $20.00/hour. The hockey association will then turn this
money over to the village at the end of the season.
Ron Gipp expressed
concern over the purchasing and enforcement of parking meters and the financial
situation in the village.
The meeting adjourned
at 6:38PM.
Respectfully
submitted,
Patricia M. Golus,
Clerk
