Regular Council Meeting

Tuesday, January 18, 2005

 

Present for Roll Call: Bausano, Harju, Junot, Lanctot, Rastello and Turner.

 

Absent: Koskiniemi.

 

Guests: Paul Baroni, Kurt Erkkila, Jon Koskiniemi, Edward Sever, Edward M. Vertin, and Daniel Zubiena.

 

The meeting was called to order in the Village Council Chambers by President Bausano at 5:30PM.

 

A motion was made by Rastello and seconded by Junot to approve the agenda with the addition of Ordinance #146-Election/Terms of Office to unfinished business.  Carried 6-0.

 

A motion was made by Lanctot and seconded by Junot to approve the minutes of the December 21, 2004 regular council meeting.  Carried 6-0.

 

A motion was made by Junot and seconded by Lanctot to approve payment of the merchandise accounts in the amount of $33,887.11 and approve the prepaid bills in the amount of $181,650.46.  Carried 6-0.

 

Committee Reports

 

Finance: Preparation for next year’s budget has begun.  Committees should meet before the 4th of February and turn in their budgets to Village Administrator Vertin.  He will then have a preliminary budget prepared for the February meeting.  A budget work session will be held after the regular monthly meeting.  The budget hearing/special meeting will be before the fiscal year ends on February 28, 2005.

 

Recreation: Snow on the roof of the Arena was discussed.

 

Public Safety – Police: No report.

 

Public Safety – Fire: The year end report and January monthly report were submitted.

 

Streets/Equipment/Sanitation: The cost of the hoist authorized for purchase last month increased $500.00 in order to get a custom fit to work on our equipment.  President Bausano requested that Group Leader Sever go over the winter driving rules with the new hires in the Street Department.

Property/Buildings/Ordinance: Four property owners have not complied with the orders from the hearings on Unsafe Buildings.  These will be addressed at the February regular council meeting.

 

Beautification/Parks/Community Relations: No report.

 

Unfinished Business: A motion was made by Harju and seconded by Rastello to approve Ordinance #146 – Election/Terms of Office.  Carried 6-0.

 

New Business: A motion was made by Rastello and seconded by Junot to approve the Fire Department’s officers.  Carried 6-0. (A list of the officers follows the minutes).

 

Announcement

 

On March 15, 2005, Jerry Adair from Michigan Township Par Plan will be meeting with the police department to help with updating their code of conduct.  He will also be at the council meeting to discuss risk management.

 

At 5:51PM, a motion was made to adjourn.
