Statutory Meeting

Monday, April 12, 2004

 

Present for Roll Call: Bausano, Harrell, Koskiniemi, Rastello (5:38), and Turner.

 

Absent: Junot and Lanctot.

 

The meeting was called to order in the Village Council Chambers by President Harrell at 5:30PM.

 

A motion was made by Bausano and seconded by Turner to appoint Vairo, Mechlin, Tomasi, Manchester and Johnson as the Village law firm with Gerald Vairo as Village Attorney.  Carried 4-0.

 

A motion was made by Koskiniemi and seconded by Turner to appoint John I. Jukuri, CPA as the Village Auditor for the 2005-06 fiscal year.  Carried 4-0.

 

A motion was made by Bausano and seconded by Koskiniemi to appoint the following as depositories for the Village funds: National City Bank, Republic Bank, Superior National Bank, 1st National Bank of Calumet-Lake Linden and Torch Lake Federal Credit Union.  Investments are to be in accordance with the Village of Laurium Investment Policy as per PA 20 of 1943, as amended.

 

A motion was made by Bausano and seconded by Turner to appoint Daniel Mukavetz as Fire Chief.  Carried 4-0.

 

A motion was made by Bausano and seconded by Turner to appoint Bruce Joosten as DPW Group Leader.  Carried 4-0.

 

A motion was made by Koskiniemi and seconded by Turner to appoint Patricia Golus as Accounts Clerk with the following benefits: Hourly, part time position, max 20 hours per week with a pay increase from $11.85/hr to $12.09/hr.  Holiday pay will be given for New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.  Earned sick leave pay at the rate of ˝ day per each completed month of employment and 3 weeks paid vacation.  Carried 5-0.

 

A motion was made by Rastello and seconded by Turner to appoint Edward M. Vertin as Village Administrator with a salary increase from

$31,529.60                to                     $32,197.03  Administrator

    2,000.00               to                          2,000.00  Streets Administrator

$33,526.60                                        $34,197.03  Total

 

Benefits for the Village Administrator include: Holiday pay for New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  Earned sick leave pay at the rate of one day per each completed month of employment.  Two personal days not chargeable to sick time.  4 weeks paid vacation, $17,500 life insurance, BC/BS coverage comparable to DPW Union upon ratification and MERS B-3 FAC 3 pension.  Carried 5-0.

 

A motion was made by Rastello and seconded by Turner to approve the following committee appointments (*denotes chairperson):

 

Finance: *Junot, Rastello

Public Safety – Police: *Lanctot, Rastello

Public Safety – Fire: *Rastello, Lanctot

Recreation: *Bausano, Turner

Streets/Equipment/Sanitation: *Bausano, Koskiniemi

Property/Building/Ordinance: *Lanctot, Rastello

Beautification/Parks/Community Relations: *Turner, Koskiniemi

 

Village President Pro-Tem: Bausano

 

Carried 5-0.
