Planning Commission

The role of the Planning Commission is to guide the land use, zoning, and planning process in the Village of Laurium. The Commission is charged with planning for the future and is expected to stay up to date on current trends and issues that may affect the village. The Commission is responsible for the formalization of the Master Plan. They review and recommend changes to the Zoning Ordinance and Zoning map to the Village Council. The Commission also reviews site plans, rezoning requests, special/conditional use requests and planned unit developments.

The Laurium Planning Commission is comprised of 7 members.

2024 Village of Laurium Planning Commission Meeting Schedule:
The Village of Laurium planning commission meets every second Monday of the month at 6pm, except in October to observe the federal holiday.

Meeting dates: 

January: Monday, January 22nd at 6pm

February: Monday, February 12th at 6pm

March: Monday, March 11th at 6pm

April: Monday, April 8th at 6pm

May: Monday, May 13th at 6pm

June: Monday, June 10th at 6pm

July: Monday, July 8th at 6pm

August: Monday, August 12th at 6pm

September: Monday, September 9th at 6pm

October: Wednesday, October 16th at 6pm

November: Monday, November 11th at 6pm

December: Monday, December 9th at 6pm

Planning Commission Founding Ordinances & Bylaws

Reinstated in March of 2022, the Planning Commission is authorized by the Michigan Planning Enabling Act (Public Act 33 of 2008, as amended; MCL 125.3801, et seq.), and the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act (Public Act 110 of 2006, as amended; MCL 125.3101, et seq.).
